Thrust Area

1. Environmental Pollution and Toxicology: Treatment of sewage and industrial wastes by conventional and advanced techniques using microorganisms, toxicology of environmental pollution, Microbial leaching of ore.
2. Fermentation Technology and Bioprocess: Production of ethanol by using nonconventional agro wastes, production of quality wines using chief fruits like ber and tamarind etc., production of lactic acid, enzymes, cholesterol lowering agents, antitumour agents and antibiotics from microorganisms by using various agro wastes.
3. Food and Dairy Microbiology: Single cell protein, preparation of quality cheese, microbiological quality of milk, production of single cell oil.
4. Microbial diversity: Microbial diversity of agricultural soils and water bodies of this region. Biological nitrogen fixation - Rhizobium and Azospirillum. Phosphate solubilization by bacteria.
5. Biocontrol Mechanism: Biological control of insect pests of stored food grains using Bacillus thuringiensis, B. cereus and other non-spore is forming bacteria and nuclear polyhedrosis virus.
6. Health Care Microbiology: Antibiogram of organisms causing communicable diseases and urinary tract infection. Epidemiology of gastroenteritis caused by Campylobacter and atyptical Mycobacteriosis.
