Brief History of the Department

Department of Studies and Research in Instrumentation Technology, P.G. Centre, Raichur is one of the premier post graduation departments of Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. It has been providing a high quality education to the students, at post graduation level since its inception in the year 1993. Also, it has started research programs (M.Phil. & Ph.D.) in the field of Instrumentation Technology two years back.

The department is committed towards disseminating and generating knowledge and providing students an education that is well balanced in terms of academics as well as opportunities to excel in other extra curricular activities. It trains the students to meet the needs of modern industry for high quality scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs in this field.

Instrumentation Technology

Branch of science deals with the design, development, fabrication, analysis, improvement and application of various types of instruments viz., Electronic, Scientific / Analytical, Process / Industrial, Biomedical and Intelligent instruments.

Goal and Objective

Goal and objective of M.Sc. Instrumentation Technology course is to train the student in design, development, fabrication, analysis, improvement, and application of various types of instruments viz., electronic, scientific / analytical, process / industrial, biomedical, and intelligent (muP / muC / PC / DSP - based) instruments for the measurement and control of physical parameter. Also, the motto is self-reliance and entrepreneurship in the field of instrumentation.


After completion of M.Sc. Instrumentation Technology course the candidate acquires skills in design, development, analysis, & application of various types of instruments viz., Electrical, Electronic, Scientific, Biomedical, Process, PLCs, PC / muC / muP / DSP - based instruments for measurement and control.

Employment opportunities in process industries viz., thermal/biomass, cement, paper & pulp, iron & steel, refineries, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, R&Ds like ISRO, DRDO, DRDL, NAL, NPL, etc.

Scope for self-employment and entrepreneurship. After completion of the course the student can start his/her own small scale industries in design, development and fabrication of various instruments.

Laboratory Facilities

The department has the best lab facilities with state of the art infrastructure and equipments. It has 24 hours uninterrupted power supply and sufficient computers to carry out the experiments.

Placement Prospects

Many are gainfully employed. Placement cells to interact with Industries, Corporate, and Government departments to arrange Campus Interviews.


Degree program imparts training in the following major process industries during the vacations: Thermal/Biomass Power Plants, Petrochemical, Cement, Paper Industries, Iron & Steel industries, Pharmaceuticals & etc.
